So I've been off the strict diet for a couple weeks now and the weight has stayed off!  I was away in Dallas this weekend and ate like a pig and didn't gain any weight.  I went out last night and probably had 5 drinks of wine & heavy beer (No you mothers, I wasn't driving) along with calamari,a huge breakfast, pulled pork sandwiches, burgers and sweet potato chips.  I have stayed away from white potato foods completely. I did get exercise by walking a couple miles each day around the city but mostly ate and drank whatever I wanted.  My metabolism has definitely changed for the better.  Quite a few friends told me I'd put all the weight back on after I stopped the diet.  Wrong!   This week I start my weight training again as well as continuing my 3-5 mile daily walks, we'll talk soon.

The diet one week later.

Okay, so I pretty much stopped doing the abs diet meal by meal last sunday and here's what's been happening.

I've found that portion control,  balanced (protein/carb/fat) meals and patience are the most important parts of my dieting.  By patience I mean eat a small meal/snack and wait 10 minutes for your stomach to be full.  I really don't need to eat that much to satisfy my hunger, it just takes my body a little longer to tell me I'm full and don't need anymore for a while.  My weight yesterday,  Sunday morning, was 184.8 lbs.  I weighed myself this morning after pigging out throughout the Oscars on my homemade pasta sauce with ziti AND french bread with 4 glasses of wine and this morning I had gained 3 lb!  I feel confident I'll lose it in the next couple of days.  If you drink wine, that should be all your carbs for that meal.  A little pasta is fine, a couple glasses of Red wine (not white)  is fine, but choose one or the other.

Breakfasts:  I still eat the smoothees 3-4 times a week.  I make enough for 2 servings and have the 2nd as my day ending snack at about 10 pm.  The other days I eat all bran, (1 cup w/ 3/4 cup almond milk or a yogurt or a piece of wheat bread and a tablespoon of peanut butter.

Snack #1 a couple hours later :  I have 25 almonds - unsalted- and a piece of fruit / or a teaspoon of peanut butter with 3 or 4 pieces of celery and a few of those baby peeled carrots /  or a yogurt with a cup of all bran/ or a yogurt and a small can of low salt V-8 juice.

Lunch:  I've been having on wheat bread or rolls, the tunafish or tuna/guac sandwich or 2 slices of turkey with a piece of fruit.

Snack #2  2 hours after lunch: Same as snack # 1.  Sometimes I just eat a teaspoon of peanut butter, that seems to do me just fine.

Dinner:  I stopped doing the diet meals.  I just really watch my portions and know that half the plate will fill me up.  If anything, I eat half the plate, then wait a little while, then eat more of the vegetables.  Box up your meals pretty quickly if you're taking it to go and you're less likely to pick and nibble.  Restaurants really over serve on portions of brown rice and pasta.

Snack #3 a couple hours after dinner: I have only 2 nighttime snacks, the rest of that morning's smoothee or 1 cup of fat free ice cream.  I really like the Bryer's fat free double churned flavors, I'll add about 15 almonds or a teaspoon of peanut butter to my bowl.  Do not go back for seconds!!!

Some people tell you not to weigh yourself every day but I did and kept a chart, I still do.  It helps remind me every day of what I was trying to do. The first thing I do every morning is weigh myself and write it down.  When I lose a little weight it really makes me feel good about myself and starts the day out positive.  If you follow the diet you WILL lose weight.  On days when my weight went up, I got more determined to succeed at the diet.  DO NOT SKIP MEALS IF YOUR WEIGHT GOES UP ON A GIVEN DAY!!!  For instance today I put on 3 lbs so I'll watch my portions carefully today and I'll also do a little extra cardio.  Measure everything, a teaspoon is NOT heaping, it's a level teaspoon, you don't need to sneak more food because what you are fed is more than plenty to fill you up!
One last thing.  Walk. Walk. Walk.  If you can, walk as soon as you get up before you eat anything.  30 minutes is good, 40-45 is better.  I try to walk in the morning 2-3 times a week but I usually do it late at night.  I eat a half a banana as soon as I finish my walks to give my body the carbs it is craving.
I feel great about the way I'm starting to look and I already have tons more energy.  I sleep better and wake up less tired even if I've been deprived some sleep.  Since I haven't been consuming as much wine at night my mind feels pretty sharp too, also I don't procrastinate as much.
I don't consider this as much a diet as I do a lifestyle change.  I like the new me.

Day 27, a turning point!

What a great day,  my weight was under 185!  Great meals on saturday including my reward meal which was tuna tartar w/ mango and shrimp and lobster ravioli.  I had a great conversation with the bartender at the restaurant who had an incredibly easy way of explaining weight loss and how the body used food.  I'll post more info from that conversation tomorrow, but lets just say I had a few things confused about how to get fit and build muscle.  Michael, thanks for all the info.  You really should have a website/blog where you can give tips and fitness advice. He also had great advice for people with diabetes.  Wow, 4 straight weeks without any wine.  THAT is a record for me.

Day 26

Once again it amazes me how much weight is lost overnight.  I went on a 2 hour 5.7 mile hike last night then came home and crashed.  I weighed 187.6 when I went to sleep and 185.6 in the morning.  2lbs. overnight??? I put a lb. back on during the day.  Tomorrow is reward day!  I think I'll do sushi.  Another 5 mile hike as well.

Day 25

I just can't seem to get thursdays right with this diet.  Either I'm traveling or really busy and miss or skip a snack/meal.  My weight has stayed at about 187 1/2 for the past week, maybe I'm not measuring portions well enough?  I expected to be about 185 by now especially after seeing 185.6 on the scale a couple mornings ago.  I think skipping the snacks actually impedes the the weight loss process since the foods are designed to burn fat.  I'm going back to strictly following the meals.   I'm off to climb the stairs and do a 5 mile walk.

Day 24

Wednesday is a pretty good food day.  Breakfast smoothie, guac/tuna lunch, chicken Philly cheese steak, but I forgot to put the cheese on.  Today is the first day I've had bad multiple cravings for junk food.  Keebler fudge cookies looked incredibly inviting.  The store was out of the delicious wheat hoagie rolls that I count on for wed/thurs meals so I went with wheat pitas and wheat buns instead...they worked but weren't as tasty.  I would have liked to walk tonite but its like 40 degrees out.  My friends and family in CT probably think that's warm but for Southern CA its arctic!  I'm starting the ab exercises friday, very excited.  Almost 2/3 finished!!!

Day 23

Regular tuesday, nothing special.  Walked 4 1/4 miles.

This is my worst blog posting yet, sorry.

Day 22. The uphill downhill.

Alrighty, I'm past the halfway mark but I think its only going to get more difficult to lose weight.  This morning I was at 185.6 lbs which is probably my lowest weight in 15 years.  I can't see me getting any lighter than 180 seeing all the extra muscle I'm starting to put on.  I think wednesday I'll start the exercises that target the abs that they show on the Men's Health website via videos.  I can see and feel my stomach getting smaller.
Something I've noticed in the last few days is when I'm a little hungry I eat a teaspoon or 2 of peanut butter or a few almonds or a few pieces of fruit/vegetables. I don't feel like I need to stick to the diet and the snacks exactly as I can feel when my body needs more fuel.   Sometimes I skip a snack and sometimes I have 2 small snacks between meals.  Its all about small portions.  The weight really seems to fall off with the increased cardio I've been doing.  I've been doing 3-5 miles of stairs and hills every night.  I definitely sleep well after that.  I had been drinking a double espesso before the hikes but found that green tea gives me more lasting energy.  I also eat a teaspoon or 2 of peanut butter or a teaspoon  before my hikes.  I drink a couple teaspoons of whey mixed with water directly after the workout to feed protein to my body.
I need to figure a way to get pre-made oatmeal or I'll make it the night before I need it. It takes too long to cook and then for the oatmeal to cool down enough to enjoy in the morning smoothie.  Warm smoothies suck!
peas out.

Week 3 Stats

                         Start         Week 1 Week 2 Week 3
Weight:           196.4 lb      192.6       191.2        188.0
Body fat:           18.4%          17.0 %      16.2%       16.4%
Total Body Water : 53.3%         54.5 %      55.2%       54.7%
Bone Mass:          7.8            7.8          7.8           7.8
DCI:                 3757          3738        3740         3664
Metabolic Age:     31             27            25            26

Well, I lost 3.2 more lbs., probably because I really stepped up the cardio exercise by almost double.  I feel really great!  I can't remember the last time I felt this healthy... a 4 or 5 mile walk/hike doesn't even phase me.  I can easily run up each of the 4 to 6 "125 step challenges" on my walks.  I can notice the weight loss in my stomach AND my belt size, actually I'm now on the last hole in my belt. The DCI, Daily Caloric Intake still seems wrong to me as I don't think I'm eating that many calories.  I'd guess that the body fat is about right as well as the Total Body Water.I metabolically aged a year since last week, but I'm still in Scarlett Johansson's age range!  Sometime this week I'm going to start back on my weight training 3 times a week as well as continuing the cardio I've been doing.  I'm curious what the stats will be next week.
Thanks to everyone who has sent encouraging emails.  Have a great week!

Day 21. Halfway there!

Day 21, the halfway point at very least...my 3rd week is now over.  I skipped lunch today by accident but had a couple teaspoons of peanut butter and a wheat pita which held me over.  I walked the stairs again for exercise and did about 600 steps plus many hills for an hour and a half.  It was a great workout!
I need to shop again, The only thing I have left from the initial shopping are frozen fruit (lots of it), all the cheeses, and the almond milk.  I think another $100 will buy supplies through the rest of the diet.

Stats to follow this post

Day 20

Went up to the mountains for the day/night so the blog entry is a day late.

Saturday meals as normal plus my reward meal of a pork chop w/ au gratin potatoes, a cup of seafood chowder and a slice of wheat bread.  I ate half the plate, waited 15 minutes then decided I was full and didn't eat anymore.  I wasn't a pig as I ate my pig.  Had I been hungry going to dinner I would have eaten the whole plate.  Staying constantly with just enough food works great once you get used to it.
Let's see what the weight stats are Sunday afternoon!

Day 19

Typical friday meals which are very good and filling.  I missed my mid afternoon snack which made me hungrier for dinner which made me wolf my food down.  I've got to keep on the schedule so I don't get hungry.  A warning for Habanero pepper users...I added one to the chili which was fine but the juice from the pepper got on my hand and stays on the hand for hours.  I rubbed my eye and immediately had to throw my contact lens out.  Lesson learned:wear rubber gloves when handling really hot peppers.  Duh.  Tomorrow is reward meal day!  I'm going up to Lake Arrowhead to ski and enjoy a great meal.  Still no alcohol in the forecast.

Day 18

I'm about halfway through!  I missed lunch today, I haven't figured out yet if missing is bad or good.  I think bad.  The diet is supposed to keep your body continuously working to process food so skipping a meal is a no no.  I have a goal to lose all the weight I want by Feb 19th which is 2 weeks from now.  I originally thought it would take 6 weeks to lose the weight but I feel I can do it in just under 5 weeks.  Once again my goal isn't to lose just weight, its to lose my belly and see my abs (are they really there?).  If I get to 180 I'll be real happy, but I'm thinking my weight loss will level out at around 183.  I'll then start into a fitness program which is yet to be determined.  I hope to gain about 5 to 10 lbs of muscle after I lose the fat.  We'll see..  The website where I got the diet from has some great ab workout videos which I'm thinking of doing but I might get a personal trainer at the gym I'm joining - depending on how expensive he/she is.  No walking today, it poured rain.

Day 17

I was shown once again today the importance of portion control.  I went to a friend's house and made dinner, which was a stir-fry I knew would be enjoyed.  After eating a small portion I had another small helping because I was still hungry and knew 2 minutes after eating more that I had eaten too much.   I should have waited 15 minutes and I'm sure I would have been full.

Day 16 The Steps

The tuesday meals are great except for lunch.  The lunch is a kind of salad with a little chicken, which I didn't have so I substituted tunafish.  I'm not sure how I could screw up a salad but maybe I'm making it wrong.  I'm not hungry after eating it but for some reason it doesn't satisfy me.  The dinner was this delicious Brazilian spicy chicken, it is another recipe I will continue to make after I'm of the diet.

Exercise.  My buddy Michael tried to kill me tonight but I survived.  After walking  a brisk 3 miles,  he told me about these stairs he walks  off Beechwood Canyon here in Hollywood.  I felt pretty good after my 3 mile walk plus 4 green teas so I accepted his challenge.  Wow.  The first set was 165...in a row.  the second set which was 4 minutes later was 175 steps, also in a row.  The last 10 steps were tough but I made it without stopping. Next time I'll remember to bring water.  It was a great workout and look forward to it again, MAYBE tomorrow.  I'm down to 190.4 lbs.

Day 15

Onion turkey meatball dinner day.
Just another monday on the diet.  This is the toughest eating day for me except for the breakfast smoothie which I really like.  Not much more to say today.

Stats after week 2

                         Start         Week 1 Week 2
Weight:           196.4 lb      192.6       191.2
Body fat:           18.4%          17.0 %      16.2%
Total Body Water : 53.3%         54.5 %      55.2%
Bone Mass:          7.8            7.8          7.8
DCI:                 3757          3738        3740
Metabolic Age:     31             27            25

So Saturday morning I was 189.6, but I put a pound and a half back on since then.  I was a little disappointed until a friend told me I was probably gaining muscle because I was exercising more. (I don't buy that) I think I dropped the first few lbs. by my drop in wine consumption to zero.  I'm going to start exercising in the morning when I get up and also when I get out of work.  For anyone interested, there's a great application on the iPhone for running/walking/cycling called Runkeeper, there is a free and pro version.  It uses GPS and maps out where you walk, how fast, how far, how steep, etc.  You can then look online and it shows all your stored walks.  I started using it about a week ago, it's a great app.  I'll try to figure out how to post the trips as there is a way to share all your routes.  Here's the link for now, I hope it works.

I think the DCI stat from the scale might be crap. According to the diet, I'm eating less than 2000 calories/day so I don't know how the scale is getting 3740.  I got 2 years younger too.  I definitely feel full of energy.  I've noticed I sleep really well since I started exercising regularly. I don't wake up in the middle of the night as often as I used to.  I'm more than a third way through!

Day 14 Super Bowl Sunday

Beer, wine, soda, guacamole, chips and salsa and dip, chicken wings, 6 foot subs, doritos, shots after each score...I had none of that today.  My friend Kae brought out her families special secret recipe home-made salsa which wasn't part of todays meal plan.  (That hurt, Kae.)   I think I smelled in about 16 ounces worth.
Easy breakfast, lunch and dinner today.  I made the kielbasa dinner correctly this week and it was pretty good.  The only bad taste in my mouth was Pittsburg (spelled incorrectly on purpose) winning the game.  I walked 3 miles on the beach and feel great!  I'll post my end of week weight stats later.

The Cardinals were robbed!   That guy did not have both feet down!  Congrats to Pittsburgh...the last Super Bowl you paid off the refs but this one you earned.

Day 13

Reward Day!

Nothing special about the day except for the reward meal.  I went to a Korean Barbecue and had grilled pork and shrimp with lots of roasted garlic and vegetables.  I skipped the rice figuring I could have more pork and I did.  I've realized that this diet, and probably all diets, are easier to do eating alone or with someone who is also on the same diet.  Eating is a social activity for me and I get caught up with eating more than normal, especially when the meal is with good friends.  I need to practice a little more self restraint the next time on reward night.  The diet gives you plenty of food to eat so you really shouldn't have to stuff your face like I did on the reward night.  I am walking double tomorrow to make up for my extra feast.
Tomorrow is the Super Bowl, this will be the first one in a long time where I am not eating or drinking at a party...and I really don't miss it!

Day 12

Chili Day!!!

That's right, the chili is incredible and only takes 10 minutes to make.  Lunch was a little different this time.  Last friday I was on the ski slopes with my tuna/onion on wheat english muffins which I fell on and completely squashed.  This time I made 3 half sandwiches and broiled them and they turned out excellent.  The dinner was chili as usual, one suggestion is to use the canned mexican tomatoes with habaneros if you find them, much spicier and tastier.  I got back on the walking thing today for 45 minutes BEFORE dinner.   I think I've mentioned that its better to exercise THEN eat immediately after to maximize the protein going to your muscles, I've definitely noticed a difference when I eat after exercising I feel better.

Tomorrow is cheat meal day, which I'd rather call Reward meal.  I'm thinking of going to Korean BBQ at Soot Bull Jeep, which I call "The Piggy High" because after you eat there...you are drunk on pork and garlic.  Its all protein and vegetables so its actually pretty healthy, I don't think I'll drink again this week.

Peace out.

Day 11

This was the stolen day from last week when I travelled.  The breakfast is the most filling of any days and tasty.  Lunch was great too, a fake "no guilt" BLT, however...let me get one thing clear...TURKEY BACON IS NOT BACON!!!  There is nothing baconey about turkey bacon!  (And I don't care if baconey isn't a word, it should be)  I think this meal might go better with canadian bacon but its not my diet so I'll deal with it. The sandwich was pretty good and filling so I was happy.  The cheesesteak sandwich I made with chicken since I don't do cow.  It was excellent!  Very filling and extremely flavorful.
I've really started to appreciate the taste of vegetables, even onions which were never a favorite of mine.  I've also cooked all my meals for the last 11 days.  I eat out about 8 days a week so that is a major accomplishment.  I'm a pretty good cook, but the recipes are so simple to prepare anybody can do them, the only difficult things to make have been omelets and stir fry things but that's because I don't have any fat free spray.

I think I'll be under 190 lbs by the weekend and I feel great.  I'm not tired or in a bad mood and I feel especially alert.  I think my booze gland might be broken!  I am looking forward to drinking some wine again soon, but I don't think I'll drink for my cheat meal this weekend...but you never know.   I didn't really set a goal for how much weight I wanted to lose, but I want a flatter toned stomach.  I think about 10 more lbs will be perfect, then I'll start working on building muscle through weights, yoga and pilates.  The only exercise I am doing now is cardio, although I haven't walked the last 2 days.  I will exercise much this weekend.

Day 10

Another easy day for the diet.  I really like the tuna/guac sandwich for lunch and the stir fry for dinner is also excellent.  While making my lunch at the work kitchen I made an extra tuna/guac sandwich for someone at my office  they loved it too.  So it isn't just me liking the food.  I didn't get to walk tonite... I was out at a very cold club seeing a band and a friend said I was probably cold because I had lost almost 5 lbs of body fat.  Could this be true?  Tomorrow I get to have all the meals I couldn't have last thursday because I was traveling.
Until tomorrow!

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Day 9

Breakfast was much better using a tomato, the omelet was not as dry.  I probably could have toasted the bread (and next week I will) because the tomato had so much juice.
I've learned that organic fruits and vegetables are so much better tasting than normally grown stuff, with the exception of celery which for some reason the organic type tastes bitter.

The rest of the meals today were great.  The chicken tonight is one of my favorite meals and I made it last week, so I'm walking my hour then microwaving the meal.

I got a text from my friend Frano telling me that Dave Zinczenko, the guy who wrote the book "The Abs Diet" who is also the editor of Men's Health, was on Oprah today talking about the book.  No, I was not asked to be a guest...an oversight I am sure.   Oddly enough Frano and his sister Mary went to school with Dave in PA!  I think I'll try to befriend him on Facebook.

Carpe Diem!

Day 8

The second go around with the meals should be easier.  All the meals were tasty, EVEN THE MEATBALLS!!!  The onions weren't that noticable.  I had frozen  the leftovers and they tasted great, a couple more onoins would have ben ine.  I don''t know if I'm used to them now or if the flavor lessened over the past week but they really were tasty.

I just read today that Dwayne "The Rock " Johnson did The Abs Diet too.  He actually endorsed it on the website.

BACON TOMORROW!!! Okay, its Canadian bacon, but I'll take it!

Did not exercise my hour walk tonite.

Stats after 1 week

                         Start         Week 1
Weight:           196.4 lb        192.6
Body fat:           18.4%       17.0 %
Total Body Water : 53.3%       54.5 %
Bone Mass:           7.8       7.8
DCI:                 3757       3738
Metabolic Age:        31       27

So I lost almost 4 lbs!  Supposedly my body fat went down, my body water percent went up and my daily calorie intake went down very slightly.  My metabolic age went down 4 years!  Call me Benjamin Button I guess but my hair is still going grey.

Day 7, 1 week done!

For some reason last night's blog didn't post so here it is again.

Today was a travel day, but I prepared everything in the morning.  The breakfast was a little strange: a whole wheat pita stuffed with lettuce/turkey/lowfat cream cheese - but it WAS filling.  Lunch was a little blah but also filling.  Dinner was this kielbasa dish which I screwed up by putting double the amount of tomato sauce in, but it still tasted okay. It was really sweet tasting but I looked at the ingredients and there was very little sugar in the meal.

I really like the low fat ice cream as a snack and will probably stick with it after the diet ends.  It's amazing how much your body gets used to sugar.  Now that I haven't had much for a week besides what is naturally in the meals I can really taste flavors better.  Also, eating 6 times a day you don't need to eat as much.  I'm never really hungry.  The portions are all I need.  I thought 1 cup of ice cream as a snack wouldn't satisfy me but it totally does.  The morning smoothies completely fill me for breakfast, the snacks come at the perfect time too, dinner portions might seem small but they also are just right.  I've walked each day except for wednesday at least an hour. I learned to walk BEFORE a meal and to eat within 30 minutes after exercise.  I wish I could walk before breakfast, I would benefit most from drinking the oatmeal/protein smoothie right after a workout when my body would absorb it best.

Turkey much too oniony meatballs tomorrow night which I am not looking forward to.

One week down, five to go!

Saturday, January 24, 2009

Day 6, Cheat meal day!

Pretty easy day for the diet.  Breakfast smoothie, leftover turkey chili for lunch.  By the way the chili recipe is awesome.  I made it in about 10 minutes.  My sister, her boyfriend  and my friend ate all the leftover chili, they couldn't believe something that tasted that good was part of the diet.  The diet rewards you with a reward dinner meal on the 6th day of the meal week, which includes alcohol if you want.  Quite a few of my friends called and asked what I was going to drink with my crazy big meal.  Well, I had a few slices of great brick oven pizza that had no cheese with lots of vegetables as a topping but NO wine or alcohol!  I really didn't feel like having any, maybe next saturday that will change. The dinners are so good, except for Monday's turkey and onion and onion meatballs meal, that I just ate a pretty healthy meal.  I feel great and have lots of energy.  Tomorrow is a travel day and this time I'm ready, I have all meals prepared including the snacks that I like so much.  I made it through a ski trip without drinking or binge eating!!!  Wait...the bars are still open for 2 1/2 more hours!  (not a chance.)

Day 5

Today was a pretty easy day diet wise.  Great smoothie for breakfast and last snack.  Tuna and onions, still a little onoiny for me, for lunch.  Turkey chili for dinner.
I Skied all day in fresh powder and burned tons of calories.  I only fell 34 times, once magnificently in front of a  crowd at the ski lift.  I only ran over one little kid and he DEFINITELY shouldn't have been in my way, although if he had had ski poles it might have been a fair fight.  In preparing for saturday's meal, I was quite excited and surprised to see that the diet says I can eat AND drink whatever I want...including alcohol!  It's a reward meal for saturday night for following the diet all week.  It's in the diet on the web page if you don't believe me.   I still don't think I'll drink or go crazy eating pizza or something like that, I'll probably have chicken and vegetables.  The diet is pretty easy to follow and I haven't been hungry, so why stop.   Sunday's a travel day so this time I'll be prepared.  Back to the slopes tomorrow for one more day of skiing, unless we're snowed in.  The weather calls for 10-18"snow from saturday until sunday.

Day 4 - Hell

Okay sports fans, today officially sucked!  I found out how hard it is to diet while traveling. (spell check says traveling only has one "l" is that right?)  I flew to Vail today and the diet could have easily fallen apart.
Frustration leads to temptation.
Breakfast was fine, and I figured I could get my morning snack at the airport... nope.  So no snack.  (That's fine...)  No one had what I needed for lunch so I settled for 2 pieces of romaine lettuce and a small chunk of chicken, then had to miss snack again. Now I'm a little irritated.  Dinner was also improvised and missing several main ingredients...mainly taste.  On top of everything, my friends and sister all drank this delicious looking microbrew beer. I know... wah, wah wah!

The lesson learned is pre-prepare ALL meals if you are traveling.

This is the first day I have been hungry and its because I did not follow the meal plan.  Instead of cheating or substituting I just went without certain ingredients.  I am now going on my mile high walk for an hour to the grocery store (in 26 degree weather) and am extremely psyched for for my late night snack of 2 frigging teaspoons of peanut butter and a cup of low fat ice cream.  Pathetic.

Tomorrow I hit the slopes.  I am pre-packing ALL meals.
Peace out.

DAY 3

So far, this is my favorite eating day.  Breakfast smoothie tasted great, the lunch guacamole/tuna sandwich was awesome and I already made the stir fry (with chicken- not beef) so I know that it is tasty.
I've lost 2 lbs in 2 days!  I'd guess that's because I haven't had any wine or alcohol and also because I've done a 1 hour brisk walk both days, and will continue every day.

I have not been hungry yet.  Its been hard to eat all the food, the exercise definitely helps burn through it.

Here's a question.
How can I lose weight while I sleep?  I weighed myself the last 3 nights before bed and then when I woke up.  I lost around .4 lbs each night.  No, I didn't wake up and use the restroom during the night and I haven't wet the bed either in case you're wondering.  The only logical conclusion I can come up with is drool.  I must drool .4 lbs each night.  Isn't that a sexy thought. If anyone else knows, please let me know.

I'm heading to Vail this weekend to ski.  I will most certainly miss eating at my good friend's Italian restaurant, voted one of the best in Denver, where he always has fantastic food, wine and port.  I shall also miss drinking brandy and beer on the slopes with my friends and sister.  I think the altitude and extra exercise will have an effect and help as well, I always lose weight in higher altitudes.

3 days down, 39 to go!

Day 2

Wow, 2 whole days!  Let's see...breakfast.  I learned today that whole wheat bread toasted is really dry and tastes like crap.  Next time I'll eat the bread untoasted.  Also, an omelette isn't an omelette without cheese so that was a little disappointing but I got to have Canadian Bacon!
The lunch salad was huge and filling, lots of vegetables.
Dinner chicken was fantastic, but a little small on the portion.
I messed up on the order of the snacks again!
Overall still a good diet, there's enough food to constantly keep you full.  I made the first 2 nights dinners and froze the leftovers.  Every time you cook a dinner you make 4 portions so you really only have to cook the first week, then you have dinners already prepared for the next 3 weeks!  By the way  I don't even miss the wine. (lie)
I'm keeping track of my scale numbers and will post them once a week.  Eventually I'd like to put up "before" and "after" pictures but not just yet...I don't want to give anyone nightmares.
I'd also like to thank Dave for pointing out that I can still go to Crustaceans but only have the garlic snap peas instead of the garlic noodles and crab that I love.  Oh how nice, Dave.

Day 1

Today:  3 meals, 3 snacks, 3 mile walk.

I shopped last night and bought food for I think at least 3 weeks. $265

I am substituting the 1% milk with almond milk because I don't drink milk.

2 hours in and I've already screwed up!  I ate my afternoon snack instead of my morning snack.  I don't think this is a big deal.
The breakfast smoothie is pretty good if you like oatmeal, which you can taste when drinking. It's very filling.  I made the oatmeal in the microwave and it didn't cool so I had a warm smoothie.  I think next time I'll make the oatmeal the night before and leave in the blender in the refrigerator.

I forgot the apple at lunch, so I just ate it now at 5:45 pm.  The diet encourages fruits and vegetables, so I don't think this is a big deal either.

I've been stuffed all day.  I expect to be hungry on a diet, but not so far.

I'm going for my 3 mile walk and home to make dinner.

Okay, the turkey meatballs with onions were reallly oniony.  If you don't like onions this meal might be tough.  I used a maui sweet onion.

Day 1 is a success! (except for all my menu mistakes)

Las Vegas odds.

How long do you think I'll last?

How much weight do you think I'll lose?

What are you wearing?

Bob's 6 week plan FAQ's

Bob, you're a wonderful, charming, very sexy man!  Why do you feel the need to do this?
Thank you.  I want to lose my belly, get healthier and reprogram my body into a fit, fat burning machine.

So you aren't drinking any alcohol?  For 6 weeks! How is that possible, aren't you an alcoholic?
First of all, I'm not an alcoholic.  Alcoholics go to meetings.  Yes I have been known to dabble in occasional wine tastings and have a fondness for home brewed beer, but I am committed to trying this for 6 weeks.

Wait wait wait.. YOU are seriously NOT drinking wine or alcohol for 6 weeks?   In a row?  That's pretty funny!
Laugh on fatty.

What about bacon and pork products?  I don't see those on the diet?
No.  I'd rather not talk about about that.

So do you see yourself becoming even sexier than you are now in 6 weeks?
I don't see how that's possible, but maybe.
